Reducing conflict and fostering coexistence between elephants and people

The Challenge

People and elephants have similar needs. They both require water, food, space, and safety. Where these needs and access to these resources overlap, heightened competition occurs, which can lead to negative and sometimes fatal confrontations. Finding solutions that allow both people and elephants to satisfy their needs, while reducing these negative interactions is critical if we are to ensure coexistence in shared landscapes like the Okavango Delta.

Our Vision

Ecoexist seeks to reduce conflict and foster coexistence between elephants and people. The team finds and facilitates solutions that work for both species. Our approach connects science with practice.

A Cultural Fair Celebrating People and Elephants

Hundreds of villagers, artists, performers, government leaders, tourists, and special guests gathered in the Village of Xakao in July this year for the first-ever Cultural Fair of the Eastern Okavango Panhandle.
